Jin10 reported on May 15 that German Chancellor Merz met with visiting UN Secretary-General Guterres, and both held a joint press conference afterward. Guterres stated that in a world where divisions are widening and distrust is increasing, Germany’s leadership and voice are indispensable. Merz reiterated his call for Israel to ensure the provision of supplies to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to exercise caution in military actions. He stated that his government will link further funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) with reforms. Regarding the Ukraine issue, Guterres expressed that the UN supports a just and peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
