BNB Chain optimizes Erigon client performance and launches the Rust new client Reth to enhance network stability.
[Coin World] On October 22 (UTC+8), BNB Chain announced that some node operators using the Erigon client have recently experienced a decrease in synchronization speed or an increase in resource usage. The BSC development team is actively optimizing performance and expanding client diversity to strengthen network stability and support long-term scalability needs. The current situation indicated that Erigon remains a stable and storage-efficient client on BSC, but some aspects still require adjustment. Some operators are facing the following issues: synchronization speed may slow down, certain nodes may lag behind the latest on-chain blocks, system resource consumption may be relatively high, Merkle root computation has not yet achieved parallel processing, when data migration latency occurs, the database may expand rapidly, and due to I/O performance and decompression limitations, reading historical data may be slower.
Node operators can enhance performance in three ways: upgrade hardware configurations by using NVMe solid-state drives (local storage is recommended), over 200GB of memory, and high-performance CPU configurations; optimize startup parameters, such as setting --bodies.cache = 4G, --sync.loop.block.limit = 5000, and --batchSize = 512M; keep the version updated, and if the chaindata exceeds 100GB during synchronization, please delete the chaindata and restart to avoid data overflow.
The BSC development team is about to launch a new client called Reth, developed in Rust language, specifically designed for high performance and parallel processing, which is expected to significantly enhance network efficiency and lay the foundation for the next phase of scaling for BSC.
