A former WhatsApp security bigwig is taking Meta to court. Quite the bombshell. He's claiming the messaging app's got some serious privacy and security issues. Filed in California, the lawsuit's painting a pretty grim picture.
The guy used to be WhatsApp's security head honcho. Says he found some major security holes during his time there. Seems like these might've broken some laws and agreements. Get this - apparently around 1,500 WhatsApp engineers could peek at user info without anyone watching. Kind of crazy, right?
Meta's not having it. They're saying it's all nonsense from a fired employee who just couldn't cut it. They insist they're all about protecting user privacy. But who knows?
This whole thing's happening while Meta's already under the microscope for their data practices. The former exec claims he tried to tell Zuckerberg and other big shots about the security problems. No 24-hour security center, no way to track who's looking at what data. Not great.
It gets juicier. The guy says he got in trouble for speaking up. Bad performance reviews out of nowhere. He even tipped off the SEC before Meta gave him the boot in February.
This case is stirring up the whole privacy debate in tech. WhatsApp's been huge since Meta (then Facebook) bought it in 2014. People love it for the encryption, so these claims are pretty big deal.
Everyone's watching to see how this plays out. Could shake things up in the tech world.
